SAINTS PAIR NAMED MEN OF THE MONTH

Graeme Souness and Matthew Le Tissier have pulled off a Southampton double by landing the Carling Manager of the Month and Player of the Month awards for October.

Le Tissier celebrated 10 years with the Saints by scoring three of their 10 goals during the month and manager Souness steered the club to two vital victories, most notably last Saturday's 6-3 hammering of Manchester United at The Dell.

It is the second time Le Tissier has been named Player of the Month his first came in December 1994 and Souness' first Manager of the Month award.

England coach Glenn Hoddle paid tribute to the pair, saying: ``Graeme led by example as a player and leads by example as a manager. Graeme has helped the club consolidate their mid-table position and has brought the best out of players like Le Tissier.

``Matthew has proved during October that he is one of the most talented players in the Carling Premiership and should be acknowledged for his loyalty to the club.''

Le Tissier and Souness receive cheques for £250 and £750 respectively. Both receive a trophy and a bottle of Carling champagne.

The superbly gifted attacking midfielder has also been rewarded by retaining his place in the England squad to play Georgia in World Cup group two qualifier on November 9.
